Kitchen remedies
Home ORS (6 level tsp sugar + 1/2 tsp salt in 1 litre clean water); tender coconut water; lemon-salt-sugar water (nimbu pani); salted buttermilk (chaas); rice-water (kanji); sabja/basil-seed drink; rest in the shade
Featured herbs
Sabja/Tukmaria (Ocimum basilicum seed) [cooling hydration], Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) [cooling water], Amla (Phyllanthus emblica), Mint (Mentha)
How to prepare
For mild dehydration sip home-ORS or coconut water little and often. Salted buttermilk and lemon-sugar-salt water replace fluids and salts after heat or loose motions. Cool, shaded rest and light, moist foods aid recovery.
Cautions
For MILD dehydration only. Get the ORS recipe right (too much salt is harmful). Not a substitute for medical fluids in serious cases; caution with added salt in people on fluid/salt-restricted (heart/kidney) diets.
