Go to a doctor now if: Sticky eye in a newborn/young baby (needs same-day care), eye pain, marked redness, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, swelling around the eye, a rash, or no improvement in 2-3 days — see a doctor.
Food-first comfort
(Eye hygiene, not eaten) Gently wipe each eye from inner to outer corner with a fresh piece of cotton wool dampened with cooled boiled water — one wipe per swab; wash hands before and after; use a separate towel for the child. Support recovery with vitamin-C foods and fluids.
What to nourish
Vitamin-C and vitamin-A foods and fluids to support general recovery.
Never
Do NOT put breastmilk, honey, herbal juices, kajal or any home substance INTO the eye. Don't share towels. Don't send to school while eyes are actively weeping/sticky.
Care at home
Most childhood conjunctivitis is viral and settles with gentle hygiene; bacterial cases may need doctor-prescribed drops. Nothing but clean cooled water should touch the eye at home. Newborn sticky eye always needs a doctor.
