Kitchen remedies
Spread protein across the day using dals and pulses (moong, toor, chana, rajma), paneer and curd, sprouts, soya and tofu, nuts and seeds, and whole grains. Combining a cereal with a pulse (dal-rice, khichdi, idli, roti-chana) gives a fuller protein. Traditional high-protein foods include horse gram (kulthi) and roasted-gram sattu.
Featured herbs
Dals & pulses (moong, chana, rajma), Paneer & curd, Sprouts, Soya / tofu, Nuts & seeds, Horse gram / Kulthi [uncommon-revival, high-protein], Sattu [roasted gram]
How to prepare
Aim to include a protein food at every meal: a dal or bean with rice or roti, a bowl of curd or paneer, a handful of sprouts or roasted chana, or a sattu drink. Pairing a grain with a pulse in the same meal makes the protein more complete. Nuts and seeds make an easy protein-rich snack.
Cautions
Balance matters - very high-protein fad diets are not needed and can be hard on the body. Anyone with kidney disease must NOT increase protein without medical advice, as their needs are different and closely managed.
