Go to a doctor now if: Sunken eyes, no tears, very dry mouth, no urine 6-8h, lethargy, fast breathing, cool mottled skin — signs of dehydration; in babies this is an emergency — seek care immediately.
Food-first comfort
Frequent fluids: breastmilk, water, ORS, dal water, rice water, coconut water (1y+), fresh soups, water-rich fruit (watermelon, orange) for older kids.
What to nourish
Water-rich foods and steady fluids; ORS during illness/heat.
Never
Don't use plain water alone as the main replacement in heavy diarrhoea/vomiting (needs salts/ORS). Avoid sugary sodas/energy drinks as ORS. Don't over-salt homemade ORS.
Care at home
Prevention beats treatment: offer fluids early and often in heat and illness. Correctly-mixed ORS is the safest rehydration fluid.
