Kitchen remedies
Strict hygiene is the main measure: wash hands and scrub nails, morning wash of the bottom, daily clean underwear and hot-wash bedclothes; discourage nail-biting/scratching; treat all household members as advised; traditional foods - a little raw garlic, pumpkin seeds, carrots
Featured herbs
Vidanga (Embelia ribes) [uncommon, classic Ayurvedic anti-worm], Palasha seeds (Butea monosperma) [uncommon, traditional], Garlic (Allium sativum), Pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita pepo), Neem (Azadirachta indica) [bitter, older children]
How to prepare
Hygiene breaks the cycle: morning bottom-wash, frequent handwashing, short clean nails, and hot-washing of bedding and underwear for two weeks. Traditional supports include a little garlic, pumpkin seeds and carrots. Vidanga is the classic Ayurvedic vermifuge for older children (dose per practitioner).
Cautions
Hygiene is essential and often needs a doctor-recommended deworming medicine for the whole family. Ayurvedic vermifuges (vidanga) must be dosed by a qualified practitioner and are not for babies. Not a substitute for medical deworming when advised.
