Kitchen remedies
Wash feet daily with soap and dry thoroughly (especially between the toes); soak in warm water with a little salt or a splash of vinegar; rotate shoes and let them dry fully; wear clean cotton or moisture-wicking socks; go barefoot/open sandals when possible; sprinkle a little cornstarch or neem powder in shoes
Featured herbs
Neem (Azadirachta indica) [antibacterial soak/powder], Tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) [well-diluted foot soak], Alum/Fitkari [traditional astringent soak], Fenugreek (Trigonella) [foot soak tradition], Baking soda [odour absorber in shoes]
How to prepare
Odour comes from sweat plus bacteria, so keep feet clean and dry: wash daily, dry carefully between the toes, and soak a few times a week in warm salted or neem water. Alternate shoes so each pair dries fully, wear breathable socks, and dust neem powder or cornstarch into shoes.
Cautions
Keep tea-tree and other essential oils well diluted and off broken skin. Soggy, itchy, peeling skin between the toes is often athlete's foot and needs antifungal care (see HR063). Diabetics must inspect feet daily and treat any foot problem carefully and early.
