Snakebite / Scorpion Sting — EMERGENCY

For: a bite or sting from a snake or scorpion — pain, swelling, and possible whole-body effects; a medical EMERGENCY

Traditional use
See a doctor if: ALWAYS an emergency. Call for help / reach a hospital at once — especially with drowsiness, difficulty breathing, drooping eyes, spreading swelling, bleeding, or collapse

Kitchen remedies

None as treatment — this is an emergency. Keep the person calm and still, immobilise the limb below heart level, remove rings/tight items, note the time, and get to a hospital for antivenom immediately

Featured herbs

None recommended — traditional 'snakeroot' herbs must NOT delay hospital care

How to prepare

Do NOT cut, suck, apply a tight tourniquet, or rely on any herb or home remedy. Do NOT waste time. Move immediately to the nearest hospital with anti-venom facilities. Keep the bitten part still and lower than the heart; keep the person calm.

Cautions

This entry exists for SAFETY. Traditional herbal snakebite remedies (e.g. Aristolochia/snakeroot) are NOT a substitute for antivenom and can waste life-saving time. Always go to hospital.

Related remedies

When to see a doctor. Home remedies are for minor, self-limiting complaints in adults. They are not a substitute for medical care, and herbs can interact with medicines. Not for children under the ages stated, in pregnancy, or with chronic conditions without a doctor's advice.
