Low Blood Pressure / Faintness (mild, supportive)

For: light-headedness on standing, mild dizziness, tiredness, occasional faint feeling with a low reading

Traditional use
See a doctor if: Fainting with injury, chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, black stools (bleeding), very low readings, or dizziness with new medicines/pregnancy — see a doctor

Kitchen remedies

Adequate fluids and a little more salt in the diet (unless told otherwise); small frequent meals; stand up slowly; soaked raisins and dates; beetroot and pomegranate; a pinch of salt in lemon water; compression stockings for heavy legs

Featured herbs

Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Yashtimadhu/Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) [traditionally raises BP], Amla (Phyllanthus emblica), Rosemary [traditional], Ginger (Zingiber officinale)

How to prepare

Keep well hydrated and don't skip meals. Soaked raisins/dates each morning and beet/pomegranate support blood-building. Licorice is a traditional measure that tends to raise blood pressure — useful here but the mirror-image caution of high-BP advice. Rise slowly from lying/sitting.

Cautions

Supportive only. Because licorice RAISES blood pressure and retains salt, use it sparingly and never alongside high-BP care. Added salt/fluids are wrong for anyone on salt/fluid restriction — check first.

Related remedies

When to see a doctor. Home remedies are for minor, self-limiting complaints in adults. They are not a substitute for medical care, and herbs can interact with medicines. Not for children under the ages stated, in pregnancy, or with chronic conditions without a doctor's advice.
