For: itchy scalp, tiny insects and white nits stuck near the hair root, common in school children

Traditional use
See a doctor if: Infected sores, swollen neck glands, no clearance after 2-3 weeks, or infants affected — see a doctor/pharmacist for medicated lotion

Kitchen remedies

Fine nit-comb on wet, conditioned hair every few days; hot-wash pillowcases/combs; check and treat the family; coconut-oil smothering; neem rinses

Featured herbs

Neem (Azadirachta indica), Custard-apple seed (Annona squamosa) [traditional — external scalp only], Camphor + coconut oil, Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum)

How to prepare

Warm coconut oil (optionally with a little neem or camphor) left on the scalp 1-2 hours smothers lice, then wet-comb out with a fine nit-comb. Neem-water final rinse. Repeat every 3-4 days for 2 weeks to catch newly hatched nits.

Cautions

Custard-apple seed and strong essential oils are for SCALP/EXTERNAL use only — keep well away from eyes and never swallow (seeds are toxic). Not on broken/infected scalp.
