Kitchen remedies
Sip water often; suck on a clove or fennel-cardamom mix; sugar-free chewing to stimulate saliva; amla or lemon in water; a little ghee; avoid caffeine, alcohol and tobacco which dry the mouth; humidify the bedroom
Featured herbs
Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum), Yashtimadhu/Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) [saliva-stimulant tradition], Amla (Phyllanthus emblica), Liquorice-root stick / traditional mouth fresheners
How to prepare
Keep water at hand and sip through the day. Chew fennel-cardamom or hold a small piece of licorice/clove to stimulate saliva. Amla (as juice or candy) freshens and moistens. Address dryness triggers — caffeine, alcohol, mouth-breathing, tobacco.
Cautions
Supportive comfort measures. Persistent dry mouth can be caused by medicines, diabetes or salivary/autoimmune conditions and raises tooth-decay risk — keep up dental care. Licorice in excess raises blood pressure.
