Measles / Viral Rash — Recovery Nutrition (Referral-Forward) in children

Signs: fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes followed by a spreading rash; low appetite and tiredness during recovery

Age: 1 year+ (any rash-with-fever in a baby needs a doctor)
Go to a doctor now if: Measles must be medically assessed. Urgent: breathing difficulty, persistent high fever, ear pain/discharge, fits, drowsiness, dehydration, or a fine rash that does not fade on pressure — seek care immediately.

Food-first comfort

Supportive comfort and recovery nutrition (measles itself needs medical care): plenty of fluids/ORS to prevent dehydration; light, soft, nourishing foods as tolerated — khichdi, dal water, soups, fruit; vitamin-A rich foods (carrot, pumpkin, papaya, mango, greens, egg yolk, milk) support recovery; rest and a calm, dim room if eyes are sensitive.

What to nourish

Vitamin-A and vitamin-C foods, fluids/ORS, soft easy meals to rebuild strength.

Never

NEVER give aspirin to children. Don't treat measles as 'just a rash' at home — it is a notifiable illness that needs medical assessment (vitamin-A dosing and complication checks are doctor-led). No honey under 1 year.

Care at home

For infectious rashes like measles, home care is supportive comfort and recovery nutrition only — the diagnosis, vitamin-A treatment and watch for complications belong with a doctor. Prevention through vaccination is key.
